In this article, we'll guide you through common problems and provide effective solutions to get you back in game as soon as possible.
The Launcher failing to boot a game
If you are experiencing trouble with a game, try uninstalling and reinstalling it:
- If you installed the game through the Launcher, click the three dots next to the Play button and then select ‘Uninstall’
- Alternatively, games can be manually uninstalled
- Windows: Open 'Windows Control Panel' > Uninstall a Program
- Mac: Find the app in 'Finder' > Drag the app to the Bin
If this doesn't work, or you're repeatedly seeing an error message such as 'The launcher has experienced an error and needs to close' try uninstalling and reinstalling the Launcher itself. Restarting your device or your network can also resolve problems.
My Launcher is stuck on ‘Please wait while an update is applied.’
It's possible the Launcher is running twice on the same machine. To fix this close both Launchers (from the system tray) and then restart to re-apply the update.
The Jagex Launcher installer isn't working on Mac
If the installer won't run, and isn't giving you an error then you may have Auto Proxy Discovery enabled. To resolve this issue you can disable this:
- Choose Apple menu
- Then System Settings
- Next click Network in the sidebar,
- Select a network service on the right,
- Click Details
- Finally click Proxies
From here you should be able to disable Auto Proxy Discovery, if you're having trouble you can check out Apple's own article on Changing proxy settings on Mac.
The Jagex Launcher installer presents a "Timeout waiting for window to load" error message
On some Windows 10 (and below) computers, you may need Internet Explorer 11 installed on your Windows PC to run the Jagex Launcher Installer, even if you don't use Internet Explorer as your main browser.
Why am I asked to log in to the game after running through the Launcher?
Ensure that both the Jagex Launcher and the game client are running with consistent permissions, preferably as your normal operating system user and not as an Administrator.
I get the error 'Process returned unknown error code' when installing via the launcher
When attempting to install via the launcher you may receive this error:
To resolve this you will need to download DirectX End-User Runtime.
Once this has been installed you can then attempt to install via our launcher again.
Why are files being added to my desktop when I open the Launcher?
This happens when the "CTRL" button is being held down when the Launcher is being opened. To prevent this from happening, please ensure that no keys are being pressed on the keyboard when you open the Jagex Launcher.
